UAE Laboratory group nominated for Prestigious Award

Dubai, 21st January 2014:  Proficiency Healthcare Diagnostics (PHD) a UAE laboratory network is one of only three nominees to be selected for The Roche Excellence in Laboratory Award, and the only contender from the United Arab Emirates.  The winner will be announced at the Arab Health Exhibition during an awards ceremony, attended by the regions most senior healthcare officials and major healthcare providers.

As well as being the only UAE laboratory network to be put forward for the award, PHD will be announcing the introduction of Molecular Biology and Cytogenetics to their extensive test repertoire at the Arab Health Exhibition that attracts over 85,000 visitors during the four-day event.

MERS – A Real Threat to your Health

There have been several articles in the news lately about the ‘MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) coronavirus that recently caused the tragic death of a paramedic in the UAE.

The Health Authority of Abu Dhabi has confirmed the current situation was not a public health concern and has taken all necessary measures as per international standards and recommendations from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

However, The health body advises the public to follow these tips to help prevent respiratory illnesses:


-Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds.
-Help young children do the same. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer.
-Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze then throw the tissue in the trash.
-Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
-Avoid close contact with people with fever or flu-like illnesses.
