Preparing for your Test

Fasting is necessary before these tests:

  1. Fasting Plasma Sugar estimation – overnight fasting minimum 6 to 8 hrs.
  2. Lipid Profile/ Cholesterol/ Triglycerides/ HDLC/ LDLC estimation.
  3. Serum Iron Studies Iron/TIBC – overnight fasting 6 to 8 hrs.

Fasting implies NO tea, coffee, milk, breakfast, juices, fruits, medications till the blood sample is collected. WATER consumption is ALLOWED at any time before the sample collection, preferably in regular sips.

All other tests such as CBC, ESR, Malarial Parasite, Liver Function Tests, Renal Function Tests, Thyroid Function Test etc do not require fasting.  If you have any questions about preparing for your test, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

Post Prandial

(This means during or relating to the period after dinner or lunch).

Sample Collection:  ie. Plasma Sugar, can be taken 2 hours after having meals and regular medications.  Diabetics should follow their usual routine medication/diet and give the post prandial sample after lunch.
NO tea, coffee, milk, juices or fruits for 2 hours until the blood sample is collected.
WATER is ALLOWED at any time before the sample collection and should be taken preferably in regular sips.

The FASTING and Post Prandial blood samples can be given on different days.

Lipid Profile: i.e., MAXI / Routine / Cholesterol / Triglycerides/ HDLC/ LDLC estimation.
Ideally a minimum of 12 hrs fasting.
No heavy, fatty meals for 2 days prior to testing.
No Alcohol consumption for 2 days prior to testing.

Urine Routine: Morning or random MIDSTREAM urine sample to be collected in sterile plastic or glass container and sent to the laboratory within 1 hour.  If more transit time is expected then the sample can be refrigerated in the lower refrigerator compartment for up to 4 hours.

Midstream Urine Sample: Allow the initial stream of urine to pass outside of the sterile container.  Collect the middle of the stream in the container, allowing the latter part of urine to flow outside.  Please fill over half of the container with the mid-stream sample.

Urine Culture and Anti-biotic Sensitivity: Prior local cleansing of the parts with soap and water.  Midstream urine sample is to be collected in the sterile container and sent to the laboratory within 30 minutes.  If more transit time is expected, then the sample may be refrigerated in the lower compartments for up to 2 hours.
